Google Chrome

Google Chrome is a new web browser developed by Google, using the same technology as Safari for displaying HTML. It is still in beta, and is only available for Windows (with Mac and Linux versions coming later)

The big developments in Chrome is how the browser launches a new process for each tab (more on this later), and how it is significantly quicker than other browsers (although there are some reports of speeds dropping once multiple tabs are used).

Every time you open a new tab in Chrome, a new process is created. This means that effectively there are two (or more) Chromes running at the same time. This may seem a bit wasteful, but this means that if a badly coded website is visited, only that tab will crash rather than the whole application (which means other tabs are left unharmed)

Chrome has a relatively small slice of the web browser usage pie (with figures ranging from 1% to 5%), but it is worth noting that it is still a very new browser (launching in September 2008). It has been suggested that Chrome will eventually be the leader in the web browser market, due to Google's prominence on the Internet.
